TEN COMMANDMENTS 1

And God spoke all these words:

 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before me.

Exodus 20:1-3 NIV

The first four commandments regards our conducts with God. God made Himself who He is and what He had done to the Children of Israel before giving them His commandments. He said that He was the God who brought them out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

These commandments which God spoke to Moses, some of them which were not new in the ears of people of that time. For the most part this simply clearly and definitely lays out God's laws as it was written in the heart of man since the time of Adam. All culture agreed that murder is wrong, and kindness is good. They agreed that they were responsible for their families and a man can not have any woman he wants.

You shall have no other gods before me. By knowing who God is and what He has done for us. God commanded us not to worship and serve any other God rather than Him. In the days of ancient Israel, there were to worship different gods according to their nature. There were goods of materialism (Baal, the god of weather and financial success) and Astarte (fertility, sexuality and war) or any other gods according to their functions.

This morning, God wants you to worship and serve Him alone. In our modern age, most of the time we are tempted to worship the same gods which ancient world did; but without the old-fashioned names and images. This kind of act is called idolatry, the act of adding other gods before the most High God. Having other things in our lives which replace the true God who saved us from sin and hell.

Some people says because God said we need to worship Him alone; we do not need to worship Jesus because it will be adding another god before God. This is not true, Jesus is God, we believe that There is One God who operates in three persons. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and all of these are one. Jesus is not another god but He is God.

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for your Word. Lord I commit my life into your hands, that I will serve and worship you alone in all the days of my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
