Morning with Ebenezer

TEN COMMANDMENTS 3

“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Exodus 20:7 NIV

The first four commandments, commonly called the FIRST Table, tells our duty to God. It was fit that those should be put first, because man had a Maker to love, before he had a neighbor to love. The third commandment deals with the manner of worship, that it may be with all possible reverence and seriousness.

All false oaths are forbidden. This includes "vain-swearing" or simply "false-swearing. All profane cursing which people may practice is being forbidden by this commandment. The Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. He will not count him as an innocent person, He will not leave him without punishment in this world and in the world to come.

We are living in the world which some folks do not believe in God anymore. Many have used the name of the Lord in blasphemy and cursing, used the name of the Lord in a superficial, stupid way. And most of the time in hypocrisy by claiming the name of God but acting in a way that disgraces Him.

This morning, God wants you to be careful on the usage of His great name. Jesus told his disciples to start praying by saying these words, ''Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name''. The term hallowed be your name means your name always be kept holy, (Matthew 6:9). Jesus was showing how much we need to be serious when it comes mentioning the name of the Lord.

The importance of this command has caused the unusual traditions among the Jewish people. Some go so far in trying to keep this command, rejecting to even write out the name of God, fearing that the paper might be destroyed and the name of God be written in vain.

****Morning Prayer****

Pray this prayer with me by faith and God is going to answer your prayer....

Heavenly Father, I thank You for your Word. Lord please forgive me for misusing your name in vain by knowing or without knowing. Help me to start using your name in a proper way as it ought to be used. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
