Morning with Ebenezer

THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCRIPTURES

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:14 NKJV

Paul wrote the second Book of Timothy during 66-67 AD when he was imprisoned under the Emperor Nero. He wrote to his Son Timothy who was ministering in Ephesus. Paul knew that his work was done and that his life was nearly at an end ( 4:6-8).

Paul encouraged Timothy to carry on the ministry and faithfully guard the gospel. He reminded him that he knew the Holy Scriptures since his childhood, and which were able to make him wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Timothy was a native of Lystra (in modern Turkey). Timothy's father was Greek, while his mother was a Jewish Christian, from childhood he had been taught the faith (2 Tim 1:5, 3:15).

The ability which Timothy had to lead the Church of Ephesus was due to the Scriptural knowledge he got from his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. We have many members in the body of Christ who do not have the full knowledge of Scriptures. Among them is where we find the leaders of church of today, people who interpret the Bible for their own gain that they may get profit out of it but not God's.

This morning, God wants you to know that most of us are in error because we don't know the Scriptures or the power of God, Matthew 22:29. We tend to accept everything which we read or hear through media without going in our private time and confirm if the Scriptures agree with what was said. We would rather listen to people and ministers who we trust than going and have a private time to study the Scriptures that we may get the whole truth.

We have the generation of Christians who are lazy in reading Scriptures and as the result they find themselves living a powerless life in Christ. We have seen the example of Timothy, who was taught the Word of God since his childhood. We need to start teaching our children  the things concerning our precious faith rather than letting the media instruct them about life. For us who are grown up, this is our time, let's make sure that we understand the Scriptures and have the full knowledge we need to be the conquerors through faith in Christ Jesus our Lord.

****Morning Prayer****

Pray this prayer with me by faith and God is going to answer your prayer....

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for your Word. Lord I'm asking that You may build in me the desire to study Scriptures. Help me to encourage my Children and those who are in my circle of influence to study Holy Scriptures; that we may all have the knowledge we need to live victorious life on this earth and at the end to inherit your Kingdom. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
