“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12 NIV
We have been discussing four commandments regarding our conducts before God. We are going to see the other six commandments regarding our conduct before God and man. Here we see God commanded us to honor our parents, and He gave us in advance what will happen after obeying that commandment.
Paul described this commandment as the first commandment with a promise, Ephesians 6:2. The promise is this: “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” All who obeyed this commandment they end up getting accordingly to what God promised in it.
We are living in the world where there is a constant war between the younger generation and the older generation. This led to an emergence of unstable society, since most of the young people rebelled against their parents. As the result the lack to get the promise of long life in the land the Lord our God gave to them.
This morning, God wants you to honor your father and your mother. Proverbs 23:22 says, Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Most of the saints have found themselves facing difficulties in life and they put everything to the devil; but they have forgotten that they gave their parents attitudes when they were growing up.
Some have forgotten their parents and even feel ashamed of them, to be seen by their rich friends. We need to go back and fix whatever broken relationships we have with our parents. We need to be submissive to them even if they don't believe in Jesus whom we trust. Your life success is bound with the blessings of your parents, honor them today and it will profit you tomorrow.
****Morning Prayer****
Pray this prayer with me by faith and God is going to answer your prayer....
Heavenly Father, I thank You for your Word. Lord please forgive me where I have dishonored my parents, rebelled against their authority and despise their judgement. Help me to fix whatsoever was broken between us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
