LOOKING UNTO JESUS
looking unto Jesus, the author
and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of
God.
Hebrews 12:2 NKJV
The Psalmist David says; some
nations boast of armies and of weaponry, but our boast is in the Lord our God,
20:7. David knew the Lord; he knew He is the only one who would bring true
victory to nation of Israel over her enemies. While other were boasting for their
vast armies and advanced weapons of that day; David fixed his eyes unto the
Lord.
Later the author of the book
of Hebrews taught us to keep our eyes on Jesus; the leader and instructor of
our faith. This Jesus who was willing to die a shameful death on the cross
because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards; and now he sits in the
place of honor by the throne of God. This Jesus sacrificed His life that He may
save my life and your life. He died there on the cross that He may take away
the sin of this world.
When we keep our eyes on
Jesus, we get the opportunity to learn His ways. One of the noticeable things is His
character; the way He loved His people unconditionally and treat everyone
equally. He was not a respecter of a person; He healed, delivered and forgave
all who went to Him by faith regardless their classes in the society. He led by
example and when He taught about love; He taught something that was manifested
through His personal life and His message was powerful and forever it will be.
This morning, I want to
encourage you fix your eyes on Jesus. You may be an educated person, successful
in your career and have already achieved many goals of your life. You may
sometimes feel like everything is fine and there is no need for you to be more
religious because you are already a good person. I'm here to tell you that you
need Jesus more than anything regardless of your success in life.
All those things that make
you proud may vanish in a second; and all that network of people you have in
your life may disappear within a minute. But our Lord Jesus will be with you in
every stage of your life until the end if you will put your trust in Him. We
all need Jesus, there is life after this life; and Jesus is the only one who
has a ticket for the afterlife. If you have Him in your life, then you will be
guaranteed the immortal life while you are still in this mortal body.
